Hello, my mum is 79 and has been diagnosed with breast cancer. They told her she'd have 4 lots of 1 chemo and then 4 lots of another 1. For some reason they started her on the 2nd type of chemo fist. She had 2 lots and was so ill they stopped it. She has always suffered with high blood pressure which was under control with medication but that went so low the oncologist said to stop the tablets . After 3 weeks the GP has sorted it out. She is now going straight to surgery for a mastectomy. What I want to know is about 4 weeks ago my mum started getting really confused. Forgetting where she's put things, lack of concentration. Can anyone tell me if this is normal. I did read online something about "chemo brain fog" Thanks

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your mum has been diagnosed with breast cancer and I know what a difficult time this will be for you both.

As you know, the online community is divided up into different support groups so I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you join the breast cancer group which is a great place to ask your question, share experiences and get support from others who have breast cancer.

To join just click on the link I've created and then start a new post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'

It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
