Hi
Has anyone experience tiredness and sickness coming back after finishing treatment.
My husband finished all of his treatment 2 years ago and stopped being tired and nauseous after 6 months, but now it's all come back. But with a vengeance.
He's more tired and gets a lot of sickness and diahorea, twice as much as he did at the start.
All of his blood tests and ct scans come back normal. I just don't know what to do to help him anymore.
Has anyone else come across this?
Hi Debra, sorry to hear this.
It would be helpful if could say what type of cancer your husband has/had and what treatments he had.
I have lived with and been treated for a rare incurable Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma fir over 23 years and I had a bad time on and off for 2 years post my last treatment back in 2015.
Hi Mike
Thanks for replying. He had right lung cancer that had spread to the cells in his chest. They said it was the aggressive type hence, why the did the radiotherapy to his brain to stop the cancer from spreading upwards
Hi Debra, thanks for this.
So his body has been through a lot. My main treatments went from mid 2013 through to the end of 2015 (hit my community name to see my story) so my recovery took a long time with a good number of post treatment set backs.
Let’s see if anyone can also relate to his specific cancer journey.
It may also be good to check out our cancer specific support groups are this will connect you to people who have been on the same treatment journey.
You can find all out groups in this list
Hi Debra, that sounds awful for your husband. They say the side effects can be worse that the disease sometimes. I can't speak from personal experience but if his oncologists have done bloods and CT scans (and a brain scan ?) and all is clear they've still got a duty of care as does his GP. Surely these awful symptoms can be alleviated with some appreciate medication?
So the symptoms came back but they did stop for a year and a half after treatment ended? I've not heard of radiotherapy as a preventative treatment before but maybe they were just trying to cover all areas of concern.
I'd hassle his oncologist and his GP for not only some answers but also for drugs to relieve the sickness. Good luck hon, don't give up questioning on his behalf.
X
Hi Mike
Thanks for this. It makes me feel better that I can explain these things to him. He's not one for talking on places like this. But I'm doing it for both of us so that he can understand more and I can stop worrying so much
‘Talking’ to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing supporting all the family involved in the cancer journey.
The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. These services provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.
