I wonder if anyone could share any good news stories of their treatments. I’m shortly starting my Chemoradiotherapy and getting a bit freaked out by all the possible side effects.
I know I won’t have them all but most of them sound awful. The team have been very supportive but I wonder how you found it?
Hi Jeri29
I notice that you have also joined the bowel group so you may be best posting your question in there to learn from others who have the same type of cancer and treatment. I’ve had chemoradiotherapy but for a different type of cancer so my experience would not be relevant to your situation.
Everyone is different in terms of reactions and side effects, but you have to be warned in advance of the possible side effects so that you can make an informed choice about your treatment. It doesn’t mean that you will have all of those side effects, as you have said. The bowel group is a friendly and active group with lots of people having gone through this treatment who will be able to tell you of their experiences. I’m sure you will find lots of support there.

Hi Jeri29, good to see Sarah had come along to help you out.
Honestly we could line up 10 people with the exact same condition on the exact same treatment and get 10 completely different stories.
I have a rather rare blood cancer so once it become aggressive the treatment had to become aggressive. Blood cancer can’t be ‘cut out’ so it has to be attacked.
My main chemo (I had others) was 6 cycles with me in hospital for 5 nights/6 days on my two IV pumps 25/7 for a minimum of 120hrs per cycle so it ended up being about 750 hrs in total and along with my other chemos I must have had 900 hrs of chemo!!!
Honestly I did ok, yes I had nausea but was only sick once, yes the fatigue kicked in but this was do-able and as fit the other side effects on the info received - they never appeared.
Look for this to go well and trust in your team when and if the bumps come along ((hugs))

Thanks for your informative and open reply. I appreciate your honesty in sharing your experiences.
It’s good to hear what happened to you and the side effects you had for your extensive treatment.
As you say everyone reacts differently but it’s good to hear what you had, your body’s reaction and the outcome.
Love the quote at the end, inspirational.
Thanks for making the effort and taking the time to reply.
