I have had a BCC removed.  Do I need to tell the insurance company (I expect yes!) and will it affect my travel insurance and if so anybody any ideas of how much it could be for an annual policy as I have to go abroad quite a lot each year.

  • I asked my consultant this yesterday as I couldn't get travel insurance because I was under investigations and as my cancerous cyst was removed he said as far as he was concerned I was free from cancer, for the moment, so if you've had yours removed and no further treatment I guess it's the same.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

The quick answer to your question is yes, you'll need to advise your travel insurance company. However, when I did it made no difference to the cost.

  • Thank you for such a quick response.   That's really helpful.

  • Hi

It largely depends on what question is asked as to whether you need to declare your cancer or not. Most companies ask the question something along the lines of 'have you been diagnosed with cancer in the last so many years'. I've found that the number of years is usually either 2 or 5 years.

If you want to join us over in the travel insurance group you'll find plenty of recommendations for companies that will provide cover for people who've had cancer.

  • Actually I do need to have some  more treatment as they didnt get enough clearance around the area they removed so I guess this will affect it as it if ongoing treatment.

  • Thanks, that's good to know, my consultant obviously didn't know that

  • It's a mine field with these insurances,  I had the all clear 5minths ago and got turned down by 2 travel companies a few weeks ago,  They asked me if I had any form of cancer in the last 5 years,  I get the results from my last scan on Friday 26th and I'll try again,  Good luck to you.
