Today I ran for the first time since I started my treatment for cancer, which was back in March this year. The Park Runs being a great way of getting back to running and non judgemental.
There is also a groups that meet at many of these Park Runs for those with or have had cancer, which I only discovered last week.
If you're going through cancer treatment or have had cancer treatment then give them a try and it doesn't matter if you can't run. You can always walk if you want too oh and its free Runner♂️Runner♀️

While exercise can't cure cancer it certainly helps getting through the journey with quality of life and both prehab and rehab an lots of studies support this. Since I've finished my treatment for head and neck cancer around 12 weeks ago I've been to Pen Y Fan and done the SAS Fan Dance, a charity ride to all four hospitals involved in my treatment which was around 100 hundred miles, started weight training in the gym and yesterday my first run.

I'm still in the slow lane with everything I do, it will take some time to get back into the fast lane.

Radiotherapy has left me with mild pain on the left jaw, hard of hearing in the left ear, scaring to the skin around my neck. My mouth feels constantly dry and most food tastes bland.
I'm still 10kg under my normal weight. I get fatigue too.
If I sit in a chair and really want to read or watch something, I'm gone in about 30 seconds, and it is a deep sleep. Rest or sleep does not cure the type of fatigue I have.
I get really frustrated with my fatigue and yep sometimes it gets me down. Everyone's journey with cancer is different.
There is a life to be had during and after cancer.
We still have to get out there and try to do the best we can. That doesn't necessarily mean we can do all the things we could before the cancer. But I think it is important that we try.
Even if we're not in the fast lane of the motorway of trying and more in the slow lane of trying we've tried.
If you take one thing from this mini blog get out there and try MuscleMuscle
