Today I ran for the first time since I started my treatment for cancer, which was back in March this year. The Park Runs being a great way of getting back to running and non judgemental.
There is also a groups that meet at many of these Park Runs for those with or have had cancer, which I only discovered last week.
If you're going through cancer treatment or have had cancer treatment then give them a try and it doesn't matter if you can't run. You can always walk if you want too oh and its free ♂️♀️
While exercise can't cure cancer it certainly helps getting through the journey with quality of life and both prehab and rehab an lots of studies support this. Since I've finished my treatment for head and neck cancer around 12 weeks ago I've been to Pen Y Fan and done the SAS Fan Dance, a charity ride to all four hospitals involved in my treatment which was around 100 hundred miles, started weight training in the gym and yesterday my first run.
I'm still in the slow lane with everything I do, it will take some time to get back into the fast lane.
Hi. I'm starting chemo tomorrow & I'm terrified after hearing horror stories but your positive and upbuilding comments are an inspiration to us all! You are proof that life does NOT have to stop because of cancer treatment. In fact my nurses have all encouraged me to get out and about within reason but rest on bad days. Keep it up
