My brave mum ❤︎

My mum was diagnosed with cervical cancer April 2020. She suffered with mental health issues (mainly anxiety and agoraphobia) she put off any further scans until just after Christmas 2020 when she told us she wasn't ready to leave us.

Scans confirmed that she had stage four cervical cancer and she was scheduled for radiotherapy and chemotherapy daily. She didn't go for any treatment, I don't think she wanted to, she told us she did but I think she was saying that to satisfy our needs which is really sad, as ultimately it was her decision.

Coming up to 2021, she lost weight, was in more pain than I could have ever imagined, yet she made it to my wedding. Come to September 2021, she started going downhill rapidly, bed bound, hallucinating yet still refusing help. It got to the end of sep 2021 and she was displaying symptoms of a stroke, admitted to hospital, ct scans showed a very large brain tumour but as she was deemed palliative care they didn't investigate further.

She was discharged on the 2nd October, I was her "carer". She passed away on the 4th October.

I'm writing this and I don't know why? I guess because nobody else understands? My mum was 57, my three children doted on her as she did them. It's been 9 months and it seems to get harder. She was my best friend, my confident, my life. It sounds really sad, but she was absolutely amazing. Life is bloody lonely without her.

  • Hi
