the nurses and radiologists can't insert the cannula for treatment and contrast dye without hurting and upto 5 attempts, my arm ached for a week after i had my bloods taken, one in four nurses can take blood without hurting but you don't see these again, i had my last ct scan without contrast dye, waiting for results.
I have had a pick line in but don't want another
has anybody else have similar experiences
Sorry to hear the problems you have had with cannulas. I have been on my blood cancer journey for over 23 years now so have experienced the best and the worst of getting cannulas in.
Blood cancer and needles at times are a daily evil.
If I remember correctly for one CT it took 4 members of staff having 2 goes each to get the line in…… my arms have been like a pin cushions at times but what can you do - it needs to be done but after many years my veins are shot so it just can be hard even for the best medics.
The worst experience was a second year medical student - blood bath comes to mind……. actually if I had three arms I could do this myself
I have had a PICC fur 4 months then two Hickman Lines for 3-4 months each…… both had to be replaced during treatment as they stopped working.
You don’t say what type of cancer you have but if you care to have a look through this list you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.
These are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) link I have created above. Then once you find the group for your cancer click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go and as always you can reply to existing ‘Discussions’ by click [reply].
All the very best.
