Hi All,
my mother has recently been diagnosed with rectal and bowel cancer which has spread to the lungs and liver, we are currently waiting on treatment but I am looking for advice on a meal plan for my mum, she had severe fits of pain lastnight due to the food she had eaten I believe so I just need to know what you would suggest she eats that is easy to digest and won’t cause her any discomfort ?
Any help will be massively appreciated as we are desperate at the moment to give her some sense of normality in her life until we can get some sort of help.
thanks all,
jamie
Hi Jamie and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read about your mum's recent diagnosis and the pain she was in last night. If she is still in pain can I recommend that you call NHS111 so she can be assessed.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the bowel cancer group where you could ask your question about a meal plan for your mum. You might also want to consider joining the secondary lung cancer and secondary liver cancer groups. All of these groups are great places to ask questions and share experiences with other who have these types of cancer.
You might also benefit from joining either the carers only group, if you are your mum's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not. Both of these groups are safe and supportive places to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have a loved one living with cancer.
Clicking on the links I've created will take you to the groups where you can join and post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help

Hey Jamie, my dad has just been given the all clear from bowel cancer. He found natural yogurt and eggs (in any form I.e omelette/scrambled) a easy source of food. Everyone is different though but may be worth a try. My dad has also just been diagnosed with stomach cancer this week so we are going through things all again …sending hugs!
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
