Hi everyone.

I am a new member, so please be gentle.

I have battled and beaten cancer twice over the last ten years, my first one being in 2011 with bladder cancer, the in 2013 with prostate cancer. Having both of them in such a short space of time was a tough a scary time. Over the years I had my checks and tests, and everything went well. So a couple of years ago I got the all clear........fantastic news!!!!!

Roll on to November last year, i started to have pain in my appendix, I didn't think anything of it at the time, but I went to see my doctor. He advised me to go to hospital for a CT scan. And that's when my life fell apart. They discovered that cancer cells were the issue and more tests were required.

I was booked in for surgery on the 30th December, where the surgeon removed my appendix, part of my small bowel, part of my colon and part of my bladder. I also had a stoma bag fitted.

The day after the consultant told me he had tried to take out all the cancer, but it was simply impossible. I am now set for chemotherapy in the next week, which hopefully will help me.

Also, I am really struggling with ascites, has anyone got this, and is there anything to relieve the pain?

Sorry for the essay, hope you're all still awake Slight smile

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm really sorry to read that you're battling cancer for the third time and struggling with ascites.

As the community is divided up into different support groups, if you could tell me what type of cancer you have I could give you a direct link to that group where you can ask your question, share experiences and get support from others in a similar position. Alternatively you could look through this list and choose the one that's appropriate for you.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help

As I'm not sure which of your cancers has returned, these are links to both the bladder cancer and prostate cancer groups where you could connect with others who may be experiencing similar problems to yourself.

To join either or both of these groups just click on the links I've created which will take you straight there. You can then join and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.

    Wishing you all the best

Hi,my name is Richard and I have just now joined so I am a bit lost,I found out back in 2005 I had cancer of the blood,so i have to have a blood test every 3 months to see what is happening with the cancer at my doctors or the hospital, also i have or am really unhappy with my life as all my family have passed away with cancer and tumers except my mum,i am 60 years old now as for where i live I get a lot of hassle from my neighbors about unhappy I look and they dont believe that I have cancer of the blood.

  • Hi Richard and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you were diagnosed with a blood cancer and that you've lost members of your family to cancer, that must be incredibly hard.

You haven't said what type of blood cancer you have but if you can tell me I can provide a link to a support group within the community where you can share experiences. Alternatively you could look through this list and choose the one that's appropriate for you.

Can I also suggest that you think about joining the bereaved family and friends group which is for anyone who has lost a family member or friend to cancer to share their feelings and support one another. If you'd like to do that just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself by starting a new post.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway.
