Hi everyone my name is garry and I am 61 years of age nearly 2 years ago I just had a blood test and my PSA was high I was sent for blood tests and it was found out that my PSA was quite high I had some test done and I also found that I had bowel cancer in the small bowel I had an operation for both where I had my prostrate and part of my bowel removed in one go They also thought I may have testicular cancer so they removed one of my testicals but fortunately it wasn’t it was just a growth One year later I went to have my ileostomy reversed only to find out that the cancer had returned into my pelvis went through weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy
The treatment unfortunately did not work so I did not get my Ileostomy reversed in fact I had the rest of my bowel removed I now have a colostomy bag
my nurses were the most amazing people in the world and help me through everything I often sit here and think how I got through it and I would now like to offer my support to anybody and I mean anybody going through this just for a chat I will laugh or joke I’m here for you please text me any time garry
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place to be.
It sounds like you've been through a lot but it's great that you want to use your experiences to help others.
As the community is divided up into different support groups I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you join the bowel cancer, testicular cancer and ileostomy support group which are great places to ask questions, share experiences and give and receive support. I wasn't sure from your message whether you had prostate cancer as well, or if you just had your prostate removed, so I've also provided the link to the prostate cancer group as well.
To join just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
x
