Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has any similar experiences.

3 weeks ago I thought I’d sprained my neck after a run and had intense neck pain where I couldn’t move my head or sleep. I even went to a urgent care as something wasn’t quite right but was told it was most likely a spasm and it wasn’t too bad.

3-4 days later with painkillers and neck gel the pain eased off slightly. However, a week after that my neck started swelling day by day and I’ve got a huge mass attached to the right side of my neck which is now hurting my shoulder and collar bone due to the pressure and weight.

I started having night sweats about 8 weeks ago, which started lightly and were then drenching 3 times a night. However strangely these have stopped for the last 4 nights.

With everything combined I went to see the nurse 8 days ago and she referred me to haematology on 2ww referral pathway, my appointment is tomorrow. I also saw the Doctor 5 days ago who felt my neck , tummy and asked questions re weight loss, bruising etc ( I’ve no other symptoms except nightsweats.)She then looked me in the eye and told me that based on the bloods the nurse had taken which were abnormal (high white blood cell count) and inflammation markers she strongly suspects it’s blood cancer.

I have never been so terrified, the lump is still growing and it’s so tight now and uncomfortable to sleep and I’m just eating soft food as chewing is painful.

Coincidentally I saw the Dr about a sore throat (which she said was Sore but not too bad) and my night sweats on 4/2 and those bloods came back as normal. So in the space of 11 days I’ve gone from normal bloods to huge neck mass and abnormal bloods.

Shocked and scared.

  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us and sorry that you are being investigated for a blood cancer. This is such a stressful and challenging time for you but I do hope you find the community a safe place to get support and ask your questions.

I am Mike and I help out around our various blood cancer groups. I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare, incurable but very treatable type Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma eventually reaching Stage 4a so I know this journey rather well.

There a large number of different types of Blood Cancers so until you find out if this is a blood cancer and what type you would be safer sticking to this thread you have started and I can help you navigate this early part of the journey and eventually connect you in with our many support groups.

As many blood cancer are treated differently it is best not to over research this...... do stay well away from random google searches as this will confuse you totally.

You will see that I was diagnosed in 1999 and I am still around over 22 year on doing very well - a very high percentage of blood cancers are very treatable with great results.
