Hi,
Just joined this group. It will be lovely to meet you all and get to know your stories.
I was wondering if anyone of you, had been allocated a cancer nurse prior to a lung biopsy been carried out? Is this deemed normal practice
Hi and welcome. . . . .
I'm responding with my equivalent experience with kidney cancer. When I first met my Urology consultant to be told of my diagnosis, there was a nurse already in the room and she was assigned to be my first cancer nurse. In fact, I was expecting the diagnosis, but when I walked into the room and saw her there I remember thinking "oh I've definitely got cancer then!".
The kidney biopsy was subsequently booked in 2 weeks later and oncology the week after.
Apart from a phone call from her 2 days later to push a council support service, I've never seen or spoken to her since.
Hi there
Thanks for your quick reply. I have the biopsy booked for next Wednesday the 16th Feb. But I was a little shocked after she contacted me by phone after I had already spoken to a consultant. She just said she was Andrea the lung cancer nurse and I can contact her on said number. I queried if that's what they thought it was and she told me, well we need to do the tests first.
With your situation I would probably give her a gentle reminder for council support, if some person in authority tells me they are going to do this, this and this, I chase them constantly. X
Yes, I was allocated a specialist iung cancer nurse before my lung biopsy and other tests. I imagine "normal" practice could perhaps vary by hospital and might depend on the resources each one has at the time?
In my case she - and later he - were both extremely helpful and useful.
I no longer have reglar contact because I was discharged some time ago. I had surgery (right lung removed) and chemo in 2014 and have been extremely lucky to be OK since. The door is always ajar though as I was told I can call them if I should ever need to or if I'm concerned about anyhting in future - hopefully not though.
I hope your biopsy and any other tests go well and you have a good outcome.
