Hi everyone,

I was put on a 2ww recently (in the lead up to Xmas…lovely). Been to see my consultant today and I’ve been referred for a colonoscopy due to low iron and rectal abnormality. Honestly felt like a zombie after the appointment, don’t know what to do or think but all I know is I’m absolutely terrified. I don’t know how I’m going to get through waiting for the appointment, preparing for it, getting through the appointment itself and I’ve been Googling non stop about what could potentially happen to me based on the results.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

Waiting for tests and then waiting for results is really horrible but please try and stay away from google as you won't find the reassurance you're looking for there I'm afraid. We've all done it, but inevitably google just takes you down rabbit holes and will always tell you that your symptoms mean that you have cancer even if it's just an ingrowing toenail!

If you have a favourite hobby or pursuit now would be the time to indulge yourself so you have as little time as possible to sit worrying. Lots of people find mindfulness really helpful and there are some free apps out there if you fancy trying it. You might also find this article on how to ease worry when waiting for medical test results helpful as it has coping tips and strategies.

Let us know when you have a date for your colonoscopy and remember that just because you've been urgently referred doesn't mean that it's cancer.

    ((hugs))

    Hi

Thank you so much for responding to me, I’ve had a read of the article you recommended and I do feel a little better now. It’s such a difficult time of year for things like this but then there is never a good time. I will let you know when my appointment comes through, I really appreciate this friendly safe space xx
