Hi everyone I'm new to this chat, I lost my mum 3 and a half years ago to lung cancer and about 2 weeks ago we just found out that dad has advanced prostate cancer, I'm my dads full time care due to having hip replacement's but last year he had a very bad infection we thought it was sepsis but turns out it wasn't thankfully, he had a very hard time getting rid of the infection had to get one of his replacement hips remove because that s where the infection was coming from, he is now 5 months with no hip and discovered he has cancer, He is finding it very hard to deal with it, I'm also finding it very hard to deal with my dads diagnosis, it was very hard watching my mum go through her cancer fight for over 2 years but then lost the battle i was there right till the end. so seeing one parent going through it  was hard enough. sorry just kind of went off on one.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the online community

I'm really sorry to read that after losing your mum to cancer you're are now looking after your dad who has prostate cancer and I can understand how hard this must be for you.

As you know the online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you also join the carers only group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your fears and emotions with others who are caring for a loved one living with cancer.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
