18 years ago I lost my dad to Cancer, I have always been close to my mum but since loosing him we grew very close. 5 years ago my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer she thought a tough battle and thankfully she was in remission. We carried on and mum rebuilt her life . She became unwell 3 months ago and we had the news last week that that she has bowel cancer that looks to have spread to her liver and possibly her lungs. She is yet to have a definite diagnosis until she undergoes more tests and scans, but judging by the response of the doctor they are pretty sure it’s terminal. Once again my world collapsed, I’m now wanting to spend every second I can with her as well as working full time whilst supporting my young family. It’s getting to the point now I feel selfish for feeling like I want to spend this time with mum , my partner is extremely supportive and is telling me to do what I feel is right whilst she keeps things ticking over at home. I just don’t know what to do and I know things are going to get a whole lot tougher .
Hi and a warm welcome to the online community
I'm so sorry to read that your mum has had another cancer diagnosis and it's natural to want to spend as much time with her as you can.
As you know the online community is divided up into different support groups so I hope you don't mind me recommending that you also join and post in the family and friends group which is a great place to share your feelings and get support from others who have a family member living with cancer.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
x
