Hi everyone,
my dad was diagnosed with anal cancer back in march. We were told it was only there and that with chemoradiation it should be enough for a cure.
Last week he was admitted to hospital with a collapsed lung and we’ve since been told the cancers spread to his lungs, pelvis and prostate. The oncology appointment is Monday but the palliative care nurse who has been wonderful has explained that due to his rapid decline and other health problems he probably wouldn’t cope with chemo.
She said it could be weeks with a rapid decline. I feel like I’m just waiting for him to die and I don’t know how to cope. I know there is no wrong or right way to deal with this but I feel lost.
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm really sorry to read about your dad and it's natural to worry about how you'll cope.
As you know the online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you also join and post in the supporting someone with incurable cancer group which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries and emotions with others who have a loved one with an incurable diagnosis.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
((hugs))
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
