Feeling numb

My partner was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer a few months and recently finished all of the chemo we had an appointment the other day to see where we go from here and we were been told that they can’t operate due to the lymph nodes being infected. Which has completely crushed us as you can imagine they’ve said the next step is chemoradiotherapy and I have no idea what to do or how to support my partner through this without pushing them away.

anyone had this news before or their loved ones and know how to get through it?
I don’t even know how i feel about it all to be completely honest so I can’t even begin to imagine what’s going through their head right now

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community. I’m sorry to read about your partner's need of further treatment but you’ve come to the right place to talk to other people who have been or are in the same situation and help you get through this. I’m going to suggest you join our Oesophageal cancer group, this will be a good place to connect with others making the same type of cancer journey. Just click on the link I've created and click join. Copy this post to introduce yourself to the group. I've also tagged the Champ of this group, , to pop along say hello.

It’s always helpful to others if you write  a little something (or a lot) about yourself and your partner's journey to date. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) It’s helpful to other members with a similar diagnosis who can then hopefully answer your questions. It also means that you don't have to keep writing the same thing over and over. You can amend or update it at any time.

To find more information covering diagnosis and treatments there are pages covering most types of cancers which can be found on our Online Information and Support Section

Macmillan Support Services also offer lots of information, support, financial guidance or just someone to listen. It’s free to call 0808 808 0000. Most services are available 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two to three working days for replies from our expert team.

Sending you welcoming hugs B xx
