My mom has just had chemotherapy recently and after every treatment shes had, she has had small side effects with last 2 days at the most. But from this chemo she's had, which was on Friday last week she has been truly knocked off her feet. I've never seen her this bad. I'm looking for advice as to what may help her out and if there's a point where she should go to hospital for help. Her more recent side effects are, severe pain in her legs, nausea and vomiting with is constant, tiredness which has caused her to stay in bed, dizziness when moving around. Thank you to all who may be able to help.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear how poorly your mum is after her latest chemotherapy treatment. Not being medically trained I can't advise you whether she should go to hospital or not but I do know that chemotherapy patients are given an emergency contact number to call if they are at all worried about their side effects. It may be an idea for her to call this number.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so if you'd like to tell me what type of cancer your mum is being treated for I could give you a direct link to the group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support. Alternatively you could have a look through this list and join the appropriate one.

You might also like to join either the carers only group, if you are your mum's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not. Both of these groups are safe and supportive places where you can share your feelings and get support with others who have someone living with cancer.

It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.

Do let us know how she get's on

Hiya..so sorry to hear this. If it's of any help my husband when going through chemotherapy always ended up in hospital within a week. His  immune system was at zero. He needed intravenous nutrients etc because his body was devoid of them.  He used to collapse felt weak and unfortunately his bowels emptied. I suspect yr wife may need hospital treatment...it will help until the next session. Don't  be afraid to ask for help. I'm luckyl to say hubby had all clear but it was a nightmare going through it. People always think of the sufferers but the partners really have all the worries. My husband was oblivious to events and still to this day he can't remember.  That's the side effect of his radio but his was tonsular so near the brain.

Stay strong! You're not alone!  I would.add that I totally accept those going through cancer treatment are suffering in one way or another but I feel that partners also need support.  It's hard for them to watch and feel helpless.
