How should I be feeling?
So my mum, my best friend and my soul mate, has had a pain in her lower back since February and the doctors did nothing, after a number of calls and a few visitors see the doctor they referred Mum to have an MRI scan, which was on the 25th July 2021!
I feel very angry at the doctors, for not doing anything sooner.
the MRI found a mass in the lower back, then Mum had to have a CT, which then Lung Cancer was found.
we’ve had a number of doctors (while Mum had a two week stay) chat to us but no one is answering our questions..what stage? How long? We’ve been told the mass in the back is inoperable.
mum has been on a syringe driver for about 5 weeks now to help with pain management, she’s on steroids, gabipentin, paracetamol and liquid morphine. Mum can slowly walk about using a zimmer, and the use of a stair lift. (She loves that!)
I visit mum every afternoon after work and with the medication she’s on she’s all over the place (some conversations are quite funny)
I have a family, and a very busy job, I’m finding it hard to find the right balance of everything. How do you all do it?
how are you all feeling? I’m not sure how I should be. I’m very positive when around everyone but I know the end will not be good.
mum has an appointment on Thursday 16th with the Lung Cancer consultant- I feel sick at the thought of that appointment but I know it is something we have to face.. we have questions!
I want my mum to get her life in order, but I’m not sure how to approach that with her, any of you had to have that conversation? How did it go?
Bless you all x

Hi
I'm sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and it's not surprising that your feelings are all over the place.
There's no right or wrong way to feel when someone you love has been given a cancer diagnosis and you might find this from Macmillan on your feelings when someone has cancer helpful.
As you know the online community is divided up into different support groups so I hope you don't mind me recommending that you also join the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have a loved one living with cancer. If this is something that you'd like to do clicking in the link I've created will take you straight there where you can join and post in the same way as you did here.
It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Thank you so much for that information x I have done a little profile. And joins the groups you mentioned.

This is absolutely horrific and my heart breaks for you, there’s no right or wrong way to feel or even deal with it every journey is different but just keep doing what you’re doing that is so much more than you could ever imagine.
You find the strength to just keep going for you’re loved ones around you my journey involves 3 of the closest people in my life that’s been hit over the last 12 months with some form of this disease and I’m slowly breaking but I keep going for those that need my support and just need me to help with taking them to appointments and just being there because they need our support and for us we can break behind closed doors but for them we find the strength within.
Sending nothing but love and best wishes your way, I will be thinking about you and everyone else going through this x
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
