My youngest brother, lives in US, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. He’s only 44. He phoned, delivered this heartbreaking news and hung up. Understandably he’s now not taking calls. I have read all the info on Internet but because I don’t know any more ie SC or NSC; what treatment he is having; if he’s having treatment; what the professionals have said, advised - I don’t know what I can do
Hi STB1962 I am so sorry to hear about your brothers diagnoses. This must be so difficult for you being so far away. Before you continue with your google search, please be aware that lung cancer treatment has come a very long way in recent years, and the internet information is very much out dated. I am the champ for the lung-cancer-forum and I myself have incurable lung cancer, and I have been living with it for 7 years this coming month. Feel free to come on over to the lung group, they are all very supportive in the group.
It is very scary when a family member receives a cancer diagnoses, and the fear of what is ahead, but talking to others who are in a similar situation to yourself does help you through this difficult time. There are also a couple of support forums on the community you can join.
Your brother is obviously in shock at the moment, I would maybe send him a text or email, just letting him know you are there when he is ready to talk.
In the meantime, if you need to chat to someone on a one to one, you can call the Macmillan support line on 0808 808 00 00. They are available 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm.
Take care
Hello
I am a very anxious lady who is due for lung surgery this coming Thursday
csn you please give me some advice on my anxiety
Tina
Hi Tinawell1963 I am sorry to hear you have anxiety. Having an operation is always stressful, and it is natural to feel anxious about the procedure. Have you spoken to your lung nurse or doctor about how you are feeling. When I had my operation to remove a tumour from my bronchial airway, I was extremely anxious, but once I got to the hospital I told them how I was feeling, and the nurses were so lovely keeping me calm.
If you need to talk to someone about this please call the support line on 0808 808 00 00 it is a free call number and they are there until 8pm today. I think you will benefit from talking to someone.
Good luck for tomorrow, you will be home before you know it xx
So had my surgery yesterday feeling very tired and discomfort when taking in a deep breath.
so relieved the surgery is over now just to wait to see if I need anymore treatment
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
