Pinged!

My husband has rectal and secondary liver cancer and we have been waiting for months for an op date post chemo etc. We finally have a date of August 12 for the first, the bowel op. We have shielded since March 20. On Friday i met a friend in a very safe place and on Saturday got pinged to isolate for 10 days. Both my husband and I did lateral flow and PCR tests and they are negative but it was only 24hrs in. I am keeping us separate as much as I can and am desperate thinking I might even have a suspicion of compromising his op date. We are both double vaccinated but obviously he is very vulnerable. We both feel well and I think its unlikely i got infected but am going out of my mind. Thank you so much for listening- that’s what I need!!!

  • Hi ElizaViolet welcome to the forum. Ive heard a lot about these apps pinging people and also lots of different stories about this.

Personally as this involves surgery I would be tempted to let the hospital know this and see what they say? Im only saying that because if there is any doubt at all then surgery will need to be postponed unfortunately but betters safe than sorry I think as this is a big op by the sounds of it and he needs to be in tip top condition as do you.

You are not in any way to blame for any of this so out that thought right out of your head. But do think about giving them a call and having  a conversation re your concerns and see what they say. Hope it all turns out well for you both. xxxx

  • Hi ElizaViolet,

I share your frustration, I was on the cancer ward last Monday having a bone marrow biopsy and I got pinged the following day but the only place I had been was the ward! This has jeopardised the start of my treatment which is due to start tomorrow. I contacted the team and they arranged for me to have a Covid test especially for patients about to enter surgery or treatment. I will hear today if treatment will go ahead tomorrow.

I hope you get the conclusion you need.

    Best wishes.
