Hair loss through Fotivda meds. Hi all, I have metastatic clear cell carcinoma, it began as kidney cancer, I had nephrectomy & was clear for two years, then it showed up again in my lungs. I’m taking a drug called Tivozanib, from the Fotivda group of meds. I’m doing really well, except that my hair has become very thin. I also have rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia, which makes it impossible for me to raise my arms to faffing about with any fussy style. The last three cuts I’ve had I can only describe as “Old lady” cuts. I’m 63, which I’m sure seems old to the girls cutting my hair, but I’m still only 18 in my head! Can anyone recommend a hairdresser close to where I live, (BL1 3RY) who is good at handling this problem? I’m even considering going to a barber, because they deal with crises like this all the time, don’t they? I’ve lost a lot of weight, 4 stone, and a decent haircut would give me some much needed confidence. After 15 months on lockdown I’m actually scared to go out, and my hair loss is becoming a bigger issue all the time.
Can anyone help? Either by recommending a particular stylist or making suggestions about how to cope with my thin hair?
Thanks to All, remember, you’re a Warrior! xxx
Hi chrissiew
I can't help with any hairdresser recommendations but I understand how important looking good and feeling good is.
I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also join and post this in the kidney cancer group as you might then connect with others who are on Tivozanib and who can tell you what they've done with their hair. If this is something that you'd like to do clicking on the link I've created will take you straight to the group where you can join and post in the same way as you did here.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment in your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I hope you find a hairdresser you can suggest a suitable style for you soon.

Hi chrissiew,
As a man who started going bald when i was about 16 I cannot offer much advice regarding this. However, I wondered if you had contacted any of the local Macmillan services to ask them. I know that locally they organise pamper days and wig fittings and they may well be able to advise you.
I took the liberty of putting your post code into the "In your area" box and if you follow the link it will take you to the information on this site. Click here to access
Hopefully there is something here which may assist you.
All the best,
Gragon xx
