Hi,

Yesterday was my first day of treatment chemo/radio. Today I feel like if a lorry has gone over me twice, plus my whole body is swelling.

My body and mind are screaming to me go to bed and sleep, but here I am 'working', I have my second round of radio today plus a blood test. Also, it's my daughter's 11 bday so ill be at the park with all her friends.

I can't stop thinking about how am I going to survive until my mum flies from Spain (next week) to take care of me.

I've been very positive since I have been diagnosed with cancer but today I'm feeling sorry for myself, I guess is normal to feel this way 1st day of treatment

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read how you're feeling to day after your first chemo/radio treatment yesterday. I don't have any experience with this type of treatment but I do know that you should have been given a 'card' with phone numbers on to contact the hospital if you notice any side effects. It might be a good idea to phone them to tell them that your "whole body is swelling".

The online community is divided up into different support groups where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support. If you could tell me what type of cancer you're being treated for I could give you a direct link to that group. Alternatively you can look through this list and join the appropriate one. That way you'll be talking directly to others who have the same type of cancer and who may also have had the same treatment and side effects.

When you have a minute it would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.

  • Hi Latchbrook, I've just updated my profile, thanks for letting me know about the profile.

Yesterday was the first day I felt down. Today I'm full of energy and feeling great.

I have bowel cancer stage 2

  • Hi and I'm glad to hear that you're feeling full of energy today.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of support if you join and post in the bowel cancer group. If you'd like to join clicking on the link I've created will take you there where you can join and post in the same way as you did here.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Hi Latchbrook once again thanks for your reply, please don’t get this in a bad way but, if I’m not wrong, this is a cancer chat. I am  a cancer patient no matter what kind of cancer I have. I’m aware there’s a bwel cancer chat, but I wanted to share my experience with people with cancer, not only bowl cancer.

Once again no need to point everytime I made a comment that there’s a specific chat were I’ll be posting or creating a link for me to get me to post there. I’ve participated in some chats there, if I feel the need I’ll post there, but at the moment I want to exchange experiences with cancer patients full stop.

  • Hi

The cancer chat area is to "Join for general conversation". The reason I suggested that you posted in the bowel cancer group was because your question was not general conversation but specific to chemo and radiotherapy for bowel cancer patients.

Please rest assured I was only trying to help but I will not try further.
