I don't really know if I am in the 'right place', or indeed whether there's anyone there, but I figured it was worth a try...

My wife was diagnosed with cancer yesterday, and is having an MRI tomorrow to ascertain what stage she's at.

Words can't express what the past 24 hours have been like, but I wanted to find a forum where others are perhaps going through similar experiences.

I don't know what I want, if anything, other than engagement with other people who know what this is like.

This has been the strangest of days, and my heart is breaking...

  • Hi  and welcome to the Community.

So sorry to hear that your wife has been diagnosed with cancer, If you can tell me what type of cancer I can direct you to the best place to find support for you both,

Thanks for the quick response. It's cancer of the uterus, but she's a medic, and isn't looking for support. I am here as her husband, looking to chat, interact and learn...

  • Hi again  and thank you for this.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be challenging in so many ways and I have to say that there have been many medics including consultants come through the community as when the cancer reality hits...... ALL help is important.

But for you, you find talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer support journey will help you navigate this difficult time along with your wife.

The Community is organised into cancer specific support groups so can I recommend you join our supportive Womb (uterus) cancer group as this will be a good place to connect with families navigating the same type of cancer treatment journey.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones). You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

When it comes to the practical challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from talking with others caring for family and friends so do check out our Family and friends and Carers only groups as you will connect with others supporting family and friends through their cancer journey.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers can be found on our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best
