I started getting hip and leg pain in August last year. In December it had got worse so I contacted my GP who sent me for tests.
I eventually had an MRI which showed something 'angry' in my pelvis. I was then referred for another MRI, bone scan and a CT scan. On the 18th Feb, a consultant told me that I probably had myeloma and I was referred for more scans.
Blood tests and a PET scan later and having been referred to an oncologist and given an oncology nurse, I had an appointment with the oncologist who confirmed that I did not have myeloma but that I most likely had a malignant tumour. I was referred to the orthopedic team at Stanmore, a biopsy was arranged and another MRI.
The biopsy came back as inconclusive so I had another one done.
Yesterday the consultant told me that the second biopsy has come back unclear. He can't rule out cancer but says it is not at the top of the list (he says chances of it being cancer are small but not zero). Other options it might be are Giant cell tumour,. Anyuerismal bone cyst or Brown tumour.
Obviously I am hoping so hard that it isn't cancer and really starting to be convinced that it might not be.
I will be having an operation in the next couple of weeks to remove it and then further tests can be done.
It has been a total emotional roller coaster, I obviously feel so lucky that it might not be cancer but still it might be and I have to be ready for that. Also the other options are not great either.
It's hard trying to stay upbeat all the time but I am trying.
It helps to write it all down so thank you for reading!
Hi JamMan, an emotional rollercoaster is a very good description. I think a lot of us will relate to that. All the tests and uncertainty.
I hope once it is removed the histology will show that it is not cancer, but either way I am sure you will be happy to see it gone.
Wishing you all the best for the operation. Hopefully you wont have too long to wait.
