Its been 8weeks since I got the phone call in the car park at work half way through my shift, telling me I have myeloma.didn't expect it total shock.had MRI scan and bone marrow sample taken.I'm now on watch and wait. Asymptomatic stage 1 multiple myeloma.hardest part for me is telling family, its been tuff.I'm only 55 and I'm struggling to process it all.any advice would be gladly excepted.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

Being told that you have myeloma while sitting in your car in a car park must have been a horrible way of finding out and I can well imagine how shocked you felt. I can remember very clearly how numb I felt when told I had melanoma four years ago and that was sitting down face-to-face with my consultant.

As you've discovered the community is made up of different support groups so I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you join the myeloma group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others with the same diagnosis.

If you'd like to do that clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there where you can join and post in the same way as you did here.

It would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
