I have stage 4 ovarian cancer. Long term prognosis is poor but current treatment is ending and financially I NEED to return to work. How have people coped going back when they still feel tired and overwhelmed?
Hi Unicorn 21 welcome to the forum. I dont know what your job is but do wonder if you feel that you are fit to be going back to work at this point in time? You dont sound as if you should be going back when you are tired and overwhelmed.
I wonder if you could pick up the phone and speak to one of the Financial and Workplace support people at Macmillan to see what they say about how you could claim any relief and stay off until you feel more ready for work. ?08088080000,
Hi ,
I would agree that you should ring the Macmillan helpline and ask for financial advice. They will go through your circumstances and advise you what is possible. You may be eligible for a benefit such as PIP which is not means tested and can be paid whilst you remain in employment. In my case I was able to take early retirement on medical grounds and claim my pension at a rate as if I had worked until I reached my normal retirement age of 67. I was therefore credited with over ten years of payments both on my monthly pension and the lump sum due. My pension plus PIP means that my income is nearly the same as if I had continued in my previous employment. The advisors will know what your options are in your circumstances and will assist you in going through any of the processes involved.#

Sorry ,
I forgot to say that if you do decide to return to work you can require your employer to make reasonable adjustments in order that you can continue your employment under the discrimination legislation. The helpline can advise you about your rights under this law and it can include things such as a gradual return to your employment, additions facilities or equipment and clarify what actions would be classed as discriminatory.
All the best,
