Cancelled surgery: COVID19

I've had surgery cancelled twice over the last couple of weeks because of the pressure on the hospitals as a result of the pandemic. I have stage 4 bowel cancer with secondary tumours in the liver. I currently have no idea when I will be admitted and have had no contact from the hospital other than the admissions department this morning (to tell me that I won't be going in).

Is anyone else in this situation? What do you plan to do? Sitting at home with my treatment cancelled and no idea what happens next is torture.

  • Oh TD2000, I’m so sorry to hear that. It must really be torture. I’m in a similar position though not quite as tortuous as yours. I was expecting a surgery date after all the tests, biopsies, MDT meeting. And I’ve been told that everything is on hold for now. Surgery dates cannot be booked. The waiting and not knowing are so hard. It’s been three weeks already. I keep phoning but no one can give me any good news. Just maybe January. I’ve sobbed down the phone more than once. It’s awful! I feel for you. I’m toughing out the pain as best I can and going for walks, doing jigsaws, baking bread ... and phoning one of the specialist nurses every other day or so. I don’t know what else to do. I’m sorry if that’s not very helpful. I hope you get your op soon.
