With the second Lock down coming in to force I am really worried about my treatment getting stopped I have one last chemo round left and op in December do you think it will be ok many thanks x

  • Hi ,

There were a lot of lessons learnt in the last lockdown, not the least being dropping cancer patients off the edge of the world with no idea of what is happening was totally unhelpful. One of our very dear friends on here even gave evidence on this to the parliamentary Health and Social Care Committee, so hopefully lessons will have been learnt.

An issue with any operation of course is the risk of needing intensive care. One of the plus points this time around is that there are a bigger supply of ventilators and staff trained to operate them. Perhaps one of the highlights of the last lockdown was the ventilator challenge - a real tribute to UK manufacturing rising to a challenge.

I firmly believe the whole country is in a much better position entering this lockdown than we were in the last, though to hear the news it appears to be one disaster after another - but then good news has never really been seen as newsworthy.

I hope things work out well for all of us.

    <<hugs>>

    Hi Emzyjade28,

My reply might be a bit late now, but...  I underwent treatment in the first big lockdown, at the Royal Marsden and St George's.  I even had an operation as thousands of people were being deployed to the Nightingales.

Despite all the media scaremongering, my experience was that it was pretty much business as usual for cancer patients.  If you're already in the system, it seems to be fine.
