Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with advanced stage lung cancer, it's moved to my limthnods, Dr has offered treatment cytotoxic chemotherapy and immunotherapy and possibly radiotherapy, to help slow it down, as he said they can't cure it,

I'm only 49 fit and the doctor says he thinks if got a good chance to slow it do, but it's going to be hard, as I've had 2 TIAs mini strokes, and the therapy could cause a major stroke,

my problem is I was in the western general hospital, at the out patients department with my father, who has a heart condition, and with the out break of coronavirus reported in the hospital, I'm scared for my father, as he insists on giving me a lift, he is the only one I have to help, I'm going to tell him he can't do it anymore, as I don't want to put him at risk,

My only other option is public transport ie bus as taxis far to expensive, was wondering if anyone knows anyway round this as I've been told chemotherapy might floor me, and I'm not sure if I can use buses, back and forward to hospital appointments,

  • Hi . Sorry to hear the situation you are in and it is understandable you want to protect your father. In the NW (England), we have a wonderful volunteer ambulance car service. They transported me daily for 6 weeks of radiotherapy to and from hospital. It is a free service run by the NHS. I was referred to the service by the hospital. I am sure they have something similar in Scotland, but do not know how it is affected now with Covid. Something you need to explore. I hope all goes well with treatment. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

Hi, thank you for the reply, I will look into this.

  • Hi

I had a look at the hospital website and found this information about transport.  Click Here  You might want to try calling the Oncology Secretary on the number given as I am sure that she will be aware of who is eligible and what the alternatives are.

Wishing you all the best with your treatment.
