Hi

I was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer I have been through a pretty tough time , I was admitted to hospital overnight and left 3 1/2 weeks later having had 7 attempts to get a stint successfully into my bile duct , I have several week’s to recover then started heavy chemo, chemo and I do not like each other I have had 2 sessions so far and both times have been admitted into hospital due to uncontrollable nausea/ vomiting/diahorria, the staff and my specialist are amazing, however, I am due for my next chemo next week, and to be honest I am dreading it as I do not know yet how my body will react.

i understand that it has to be done and I accept that I will get poorly with it , but my anxiety is rising , I was wondering if anyone here has suffered from chemo side effects and how you mananaged your anxiety and continue to think positive, and what coping strategies you have , ? I have a good family support but find myself shutting them out with the ,, “ you have no idea what I feel attitude “ in the beginning I was very positive but am constantly finding myself less so now and not sure how to deal with these negative feelings,

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear how anxious you are becoming at the prospect of having chemotherapy. I haven't had this treatment but I noticed that you'd posted a similar question in the pancreatic cancer group and wondered if you'd seen the replies that you'd had. If not, clicking here will take you straight there. You could then respond to the people who have contacted you to ask further questions if you wanted to.

Being anxious at the thought of treatment is perfectly natural and it might help you to look at Macmillan's pages on managing anxiety.

You could also give your CNS a ring and talk to her about your anxieties. Hopefully, she'll be able to give you the reassurance that you need.
