Hi everyone i been making bread tonight , as cannot get to shop s. It is an old diary recipe i got hold of year s ago.

I got loads of exercise for my lymphatic system kneading , so not all bad. And i know the end result will be awesome out of the oven. There is nothing better than fresh buttered bread out of the oven.

I been told the volunteer s for the vulnerable will be in touch this week , i hope so for everyone as some could be starving. A human body can only go without food for two weeks and two to three days without fluid. In time s like these it reminds us how easy we have it. In some countries they even grind the grain to make flour between two stone s.

It teaches us skill s if able to make thing s from scratch , and what we normally throw away i planted. For instance if you cut the base off vegetable s and put in water then plant after a couple of day s they regrow. Has anyone else got a skill they have put to use in this isolation period of what we all face.

  • Hi Shazam. Good to hear you sounding positive about making bread, it’s a skill I haven’t tried. My husband a few years ago bought a bread maker but has lapsed in using it lately, the smell used to be amazing. Currently it’s hard to get hold of flour on a shopping order.

Ive been making flapjacks with the recipe on a porridge oats box , but taking out the sugar and syrup and adding honey, pumpkin seeds, a little mixed fruit and cinnamon (the original recipe was ginger). Not giving me as much exercise as making bread, but they’re something new to try to lift the spirits.

    Take care KT

  • Heya Shazam,

Glad to hear that you're having fun just now!

I've not used any skills in the lockdown that I don't normally use. I'm a trained baker, patissier, and chocolatier, then I love to make toys, and I garden in my two little spaces - the back is all edible and the front is all pretty.

So it's just same old same old for me. Slight smile

I try to have fun , but fun is better not self isolating, i joke that i was in solitary confinement before christmas with a stem cell transplant, escaped and they would not let me . So here we go again in solitary confinement. You sound a lot like me in your interests, but i have nt  got the expertise you have in confectionery, but i enjoy as a everyday skill and learning all the time.

I hope you are enjoying the nice weather we are getting and staying lighter longer on a night, i like going for a walk on a summers evening, but that is out of the question right now.

I like your cat picture i like animals, i worked at knowsley safari park one season, i have a tiger cat ginger and white, but my brother minds him due to my condition. He took him in early last year, which broke my heart and took more of a piece of me than leukemia.

It is really lovely to hear from you and all you are doing.

Let me know how you are

  • Heya

Well, I've come to the sad realisation that life before lockdown and life after are exactly the same as one another! Lol. I've been living like this for the last 6 years, with an outing every month or two on average.

Even with the training I've had, there's always more to learn and more to try. That's part of the fun of it all! I think I've seen you in the incurable group? If so, you'll be able to join in the baking thread I started, show off what you've made. I really like to put unusual things into my bakes, usually vegetables. So tomorrow I'm planning on making some pickled gherkin cupcakes!

I've sorted my garden out, and the flowers are blooming, leaves are budding, and seedling on the windowsill are sprouting. I'm VERY excited, because the thing I'm most looking forward to trying to grow this year stuck some leaves up from it's soil bed. If you like gardening, there's a gardening thread in incurables too to chat on. But I can't stand for long, and both my very small gardens are full of plants. So no space for sitting. Plus, I'm in a horrible area where often the smell of hash outside is overwhelming!

The cat pic that is my avatar is of one of mine. I have three of the little horrors, who are loving watching the hundreds of magpies we've got at the minute, as well as bee and fly hunting! Lol

Hope you're not too hot tonight, I'm finding it difficult to get a temperature that's comfortable. But then, I can overheat when the snow is 3 feet deep! Lol
