Hi guys & girls.
Having been admitted to hospital in late October and spending over 8 weeks in there having several operations due to what was initially thought were abscesses, I was diagnosed with penile cancer on the 08th January, on the 13th January (super quick) I had surgery to carry out a total radical penectomy , I was also told that the lymph nodes in my groin were extremely swollen but the consultant was not sure if this was down to the spread of cancer or due to the amount of infections and abscesses I had previously had,
I was told that post op I would need another scan to see if the nodes had returned to normal or were still swollen, this would determine if I would need further surgery to remove them, also they could not plan my chemotherapy until after the scan as the results would determine the type of chemotherapy required as well as if I needed radiotherapy.
Its now 2 months since I had the operation although I have had the scan required I still don't see my consultant for the results until Friday this week. I keep getting told that time is of the essence so is waiting 8 weeks a long time to wait or is it normal and I'm worrying for nothing?. I am very anxious that the cancer has spread and the not knowing is a horrible feeling.
Due to the procedure that I have had I am also suffering some what and feel quite low most of the time although I do put on the smiley face when I'm around the wife and kids. I have been referred to a clinical psychologist but this was around 4 weeks ago, I received a letter this week to say they would be in touch within the next 10 to 12 weeks with an appointment, I know people are busy and I don't want to come across as I'm complaining as I am not I have the upmost respect for all that work within the NHS but again is waiting this long normal?
Sorry for the moan
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
It sounds like you've gone through a lot recently and it's natural to worry about the length of time between tests, treatment and results.
Could I suggest that you post this in the penile cancer group, which I can see you've joined, as I'm sure the people over there will be able to share their experiences with you. Clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.
When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
