I'm starting my first set of chemo (FEC before the T) along with Herceptin and Pertuzumab on WEDNESDAY 6th MAY (8 cycles). I've been asked to arrive first thing in the morning.
Any tips?
I have attended the hospital almost twice weekly so far for various testing, xrays, scans, ECG, bloods etc. I was at the hospital yesterday having an echo cardio gram and chest xray. I am awaiting BRCA testing results which of course will determine the type of surgery I have.
I am seeing a wig lady the day before plus a nutritionist - I think I am quite well prepared. I am moving closer to the hospital which I intend to do on Monday! I still have loads to sort and arrange but out of time so will just have to go with the flow.
I'm very positive about the treatment and pragmatic. Saturday night is party night, probably my last clubbing night for a while. My energy levels are so low at the moment so I don't suppose I will be out all night although I will try to be!
I know I should be conserving my energies for the battle ahead but to let my hair down for 1 night is really important to me (plus I'm about to get it shaved off prior to treatment).

Thank you Dreamthief
I didn't have any info. Will check out the link. Much appreciated.

Hi sidney
i had to give myself those injections after docetaxyl and the pain in my back and legs was shocking. The only way I could relieve it was lying in a hot bath. I spent more time in hot water than out of it.
My gp prescribed gabapentin for it. Might be worth a try.

I'm supposed to start those injections today too, just waiting for district nurse to come around.
Has anyone else found that their vision has gone really blurry? I am struggling to focus on anything and feeling constantly dizzy. I've never slept so much in my life as I have this weekend, I just can't keep my head up and focus on anything.
Thanks Weeble
I'll put that on the shopping list. My friend just bought me some really thick socks that have a fluffy inside to try and keep my feet and legs warm am hoping that may alleviate a bit of bony ache too.

Hi Mimselina,
My eyes went really funny when I had the bad reaction to the chemo but have settled down.
Phone the hospital and ask them or if you have a nurse or key worker ask them. Better to ask than worry. Apparently my eyes looked really weird too.
Keep sleeping - it's a great healer - wish I could sleep. I Manage about 2 hours max at a time.
The sun is shining and it's nearly 20 degrees in town today!
Keep smiling
Sid
Hi mimselina
during chemo my eyes were really blurry and watery and my normal reading glasses just weren't strong enough.
i asked at oncology and was told this was normal and not to get new glasses.
i also checked with my optician who said to have an eye test 3 months after my last chemo. I'll do this in June but my eyes are definitely improving. I had my last chemo in March.

Hi Weeble and Sidney,
I hope you don't mind me dropping in to this discussion, but I noticed that you were chatting about the BRCA gene and genetic testing.
Just to let you know, if you have any questions about cancer genetics and genetic testing that you would like to ask a nurse, we are holding an online genetics Q&A next Wed (20 May) from 12-1pm, right here on the Community.
If you aren't around on Wed, you can still post a question now and the nurses will answer it when they get here.
Post a question in our genetics Q&A.
You can also speak to a nurse on the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 0000 (Mon-Fri, 9am-8pm, free from landlines and most mobile networks).
Hi Priscilla
Thanks for the info. I've got my appointment tomorrow at the hospital with the genetics team although I have already had my results. I thought it would be really informative and I am really interested in genetics.
I will check out the Q&A on Wed too.
Sid
