Hi all,

Can anyone please recommend a good quality shampoo and conditioner to use during and after chemo? I’ve read that sulphate free ones are the best but it would be good to hear your opinions of tried and tested ones too.

Thanks a lot!

    Hi

I used simple shampoo and conditioner, I was told to take it to chemo with me as the nurses applied it for me and take a headband or some supply them if you I forget. Nurses told me most ppl take in the simple range. I also took a hot water bottle and fleece but it was January when I started lol.

The cold cap was bad for first 10-15 mins but was ok for me after that, I decided to stop after third chemo though I had bald patches and hair had thinned quite a lot and the time I was there using the cold cap put at least 2 more hrs on top of treatment. So I decided it wasn’t worth it the end.

I have filgrastrim injections too which can cause hair thinning so I felt it was a battle I wasn’t winning lol. I tried it and I’m glad i did.

However I wouldn’t go out without being able to get rid of my stress highlights (greys) anyway and I love my wig, it’s pretty much I style I had and I get lots of compliments a lady yesterday said I’d done well to keep ally hair I pointed out it was a wig, she was astonished.

After chemo you can use Nioxin I got this free from the Look good, feel better session put on by my Macmillan unit at the hospital along with a goody bag of skincare and make up.

  • I would like to know this too

  • Hi, I used the cold cap and to be honest it was brutal, I was on one of the stronger chemos and it didn’t do any good at all as I lost all my hair, it depends how strong your chemo is as to whether you keep your hair or not

  • Hi, I made the decision to try at least using the cold cap and it was torture and i am on the strong drugs , and also cause didn't really want to loose my hair.  But unfortunately after my 2nd session of chemo I started to loose my hair really fast so had no choice in the end to shave it all off.

I still have 13 more sessions of chemo left still to have.
