Hello there,

Does anyone know of a brand of Tamoxifen that has the days of the week on the foil packaging (like the contraceptive pill does)?

Thanks

  • Hi Sparrow29,

That sounds like a good idea but I am not sure if there are any brands that do this. I wonder if it is worth asking your pharmacist next time you collect. If there is, then you could discuss with the doctor who prescribes it.

I can be forgetful with medication and have in the past used those pill boxes with the days of the week on. I bought my own and it was inexpensive but I know that my own pharmacy will actually put the medication in the pill boxes for some people.

I have also set a reminder on my phone before. Routines such as taking when I clean my teeth each day has also helped.

  • Hi Jane,

Thanks for getting back. I've already set myself up with a pill box and a reminder on my phone.

I think I'm frustrated that amidst all the rubbishness that comes with Breast Cancer, something as simple as having days of the week on medication that you have to take every day for at least 5 years, isn't currently happening with the brand of Tamoxifen that I take. I know it's possible to have the days of the week on meds as it happens with pretty much all contraceptive pills. I have sent the Tamoxifen manufacturers an email to see if they plan to add the days of the week to the packaging...

I hope all is going well with your treatment Jane. I really appreciate you getting back to me.

    Take good care

  • I thought exactly the same.  Why not have then in packs of 4 weeks rather than 30 days and put the days on!  Instead I write the letters of the week on with a Sharpie!

  • Hi RunSkiTea,

Thanks for getting back. It's so daft isn't it, not having packaging that helps women take their medication every day, when we know it's do'able, because it's done with contraceptive pill packaging!

I've written an email to Wockhardt and Tillomed who both produce Tamoxifen to see if they have plans to update the packaging to improve the user experience for anyone who has to take the med. Wockhardt got back and said they'd forward my suggestion to their regulatory and artwork teams. I'm going to send them a follow up email in 6 months to see how it's progressing... Not yet heard back from Tillomed.

I hope all is going well with your treatment RunSkiTea - take good care. And thanks for your response - it's much appreciated.
