I had a lobectomy to remove Typical neuroendocrine Carcinoid Tumour in September 2026.

The consultant said it was successfully removed. Clear margins and no lymph node involvement.

Can I ask how often surveillance scans should be? Ive just had my 6 month CT scan after surgery, and it was clear.

Im just worried as i still have diorreah and flushes and i have read on line these can be symptoms of carcinoid syndrome.

  • Dear

Thank you for getting in touch with Macmillan Cancer Support and the Online Community. My name is Gillian and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I’m pleased to hear your lobectomy went well, with clear surgical margins and no lymph node involvement. It is also reassuring that your 6‑month CT scan following surgery was clear.

It is understandable you want to know what follow up appointments to expect. Follow up schedules can vary depending on the hospital and an individual’s factors. Many centres perform a baseline scan at 3–6 months after surgery (which you’ve already had), followed by yearly CT scans. The UKINETS guidance outlines what you can generally expect going forwards.

I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing flushing and diarrhoea. While these symptoms can occur for many reasons and are not specific to carcinoid syndrome, it’s important to let your GP or oncology team know so they can assess this further and advise appropriately.

I hope this information is helpful. You’re very welcome to call one of our nurses directly if you’d like to talk through your concerns or need any further support.

    Best wishes

    Gillian,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
