32yo woman.

High APL Results on bloods, and >400 on FIT test.

Waiting for hospital appointment for a camera test?

What else could it be?

It feels like it's not possible- that I'm too younger for colorectal cancer, and that I'd *know* in myself if I had it.

  • Hi Kateceratops,

Thanks for getting in touch. My name is Jo and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

It is understandable that you are worried about cancer due to your recent test results. This sounds like a difficult time for you.

Whilst your signs and symptoms could be due to a cancer diagnosis, there are a number of other possible causes of your symptoms. Unfortunately, as we are not part of the NHS here on the Macmillan Support Line, we don’t have access to your medical records. It would therefore not be possible for us to say what the likely cause is for you.

There are NICE (National Institute for health and Care Excellence) guidelines that help guide healthcare professionals when people have symptoms of cancer. These guidelines tell your healthcare team if it is appropriate to refer you urgently to a specialist or arrange for further tests and investigations to help the specialist team.

Despite your understandable concerns, it is good to know that you have been referred for a colonoscopy. Hopefully you will get an appointment for this soon, but if not then do speak to whoever made the referral.

I see that you have joined the bowel (colon & rectum) cancer forum on our online community and hope that you are finding this supportive.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch. You can speak with the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm) or email us.

I hope this information is helpful.

    Best wishes,

    Jo
