  • Hi

Thanks for getting in touch with Macmillan Cancer Support, through our Ask an Expert service. My name is Linda and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists from our support line.

I’m sorry to read about your new diagnosis, I see you have joined our brain cancer forum and hope you will find this supportive.

Because you mention that, when the pain relief wears off, you are in agony it does sound that it would be important to be assessed today, especially as the pain is disturbing your sleep.

We would strongly encourage you to call 111 today and ask for an assessment of your pain.

Once your GP practice opens after the weekend it would be a good idea to arrange an appointment with them if one hasn’t been made. As well as assessing and helping to manage pain many GPs will have access to other support services within their practice and may also be able to signpost you to both national and local support organisations.

As well as ourselves and The Brain Tumour Charity, Brain and Spine Foundation can be a good source of information and support as you navigate your care.

If you would like to call us you are welcome to phone and speak to one of the nurses. Having a chat can often allow us to ask a little more, to see how what other guidance and support might help. Our lines are open every day from 8am to 8pm and the number to call is 0808 808 0000.

    With best wishes

    Linda
