i was diagnosed with stage 1 cancer of the womb 2023, i had surgery and 3 lots of brachytherapy/ I am getting no recurrence every time i have a check up , which is great.  I have been given a botox face cream as a present but im not sure if its safe to use. I never wanted botox even before the diagnosis. i feel like returning the gift unopened so it can be given to someone else, do you think it is ok to use?

  • Hi Maryann

Thanks for getting in touch with us. My name is Tricia and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

I hope you have fully recovered from the treatments for your Stage 1 womb cancer. It sounds like your follow up is going well and no signs of recurrence which is great to hear.

I have not been able to find any evidence why you shouldn’t use the Botox cream you have been gifted. It would have much slower results than having Botox injections and shouldn’t get into your system to the same degree anyway as more topical. You also sound like you are not on any treatments that would affect its use.

However, we would always recommend you contact your cancer team who have access to your medical notes to check that there isn’t any reason to use it.

As you say, you can always re-gift it if it wasn’t something you had wanted to use in the past.

Hopefully you have had some family and friends for support throughout your cancer treatment and follow up. We have  Womb cancer forum on our online community website which some people find useful.

I hope this is helpful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch at any time.

I wish you all the best in your follow up.
