Had kidney removed with aggressive cancer

  • Hi Davoz,

Thanks for getting in touch. My name is Jo and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

I hope that you are making a good recovery following your surgery for kidney cancer.  Waiting for results can be a time of real uncertainty. It’s understandable that you are fearing the worse and don’t feel in control just now so it’s good that you’ve reached out to us for support.

Hopefully you have an appointment with your hospital team to get the results you are waiting for. If not, then you could contact them to chase this up.

Getting organised, taking notes, and knowing the right questions to ask can help you feel more in control of your situation. This booklet includes tools for you to use to keep notes to show your healthcare team, write down appointment times and contact details, and keep track of how you are feeling.

It is normal to experience lots of different emotions when you have been diagnosed with cancer, there is no right or wrong way to feel. It’s important that you don’t feel alone in dealing with these, and there are a number of ways that we here at Macmillan can offer help and support

I see that you have joined the Kidney Cancer Forum on our Online Community, and hope you are finding this supportive. There is further information and support available through the charities Action Kidney Cancer and Kidney Cancer UK.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch. You can speak with the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm) or email us.

I hope this information is helpful.

    Best wishes,

    Jo
