I have been offered brachiatherapy and SABR as treatments for prostate cancer. I have just come off active surveillance after one year and was originally diagnosed gleason 7. Was wondering if anyone has had these treatments and what the main side effects were?

Many thanks!

  • Hello Freddy G,

Thanks for contacting us. I’m Gail, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line. You may also find our Prostate Cancer Online Forum useful.

Your Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) can provide information and support, so you fully understand the potential side effects of the treatments you’ve been offered, and help you make a decision. Both Brachytherapy and SABR treatments have short and long term side effects, although these can vary from person to person.

You may find it useful to access one to one peer support, to talk to someone who has been in a similar situation as yourself, as it may help you make a decision about the best treatment for you.

I hope this information is useful. You can also contact the Macmillan Support Line 0808 808 0000 (7 day a week, 8am - 8pm) if you would like to speak to us.

    Best wishes,
