Good afternoon, I am concerned as I’ve had bilateral lower back and side pain/discomfort for several weeks/months, recurring chest infections and wounds not healing. I turned 45 and as I have family history, did a PSA test, it came back positive last night and another this morning. Should I be concerned?

  • Hi Patshep1a20a6,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the Online Community. I’m Kate one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists here on the Macmillan Support Line.

I am sorry to hear you are concerned about your health and have a positive PSA test. Having a high PSA does not mean you have cancer it could be for other reasons.

We are not a diagnostic service and would advise you to make an appointment to discuss your ongoing symptoms and test results with your GP.

I hope this information is useful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support.
