Bowel cancer recall after CT scan 3 months ago

I am an 81 year old woman who was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2022 . I had surgery which was successful and I have felt well since.

My CEA blood tests have all been done six monthly since and have all been within normal limits. My yearly  C T scans and colonoscopy show no further recurrence. I have now been called back to discuss my latest scan which was in August . I am confused as to the reason and I can get no information from my G P or any one? It is also over  3 months since I had the scan, a long time to wait for a result.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

.

  • Dear Cartner,

Thanks for getting in touch with us and welcome to our online community. I can see you have joined a couple of our forums, and I hope you find it a helpful and supportive way to communicate with others. My name is Joanne and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist’s on the  Macmillan Support Line

Being called back to clinic to discuss results of follow up scans always causes concern and anxiety.  Reasons why someone is recalled can range from a technical problem with the scan, seeing changes that are due to long term side effects or seeing a new problem that needs further investigation.

Here at the Macmillan Support Line, we are independent from the NHS and don’t have access to medical records, so we are not able to see your scan results. This means I am unable tell you why you have been recalled.

It is unlikely your hospital will give out details over the phone and your GP won’t have any results until you have been seen. Hopefully you have received an appointment but if you haven’t you should contact your hospital to request one.

If there is anything else we can help you with please, feel free to get back in touch.

    Best wishes

    Joanne, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
