Hello Gillian1961bb275f,
Thanks for getting in touch and a warm welcome to the Online Community. I’m Heidi one of the Cancer Information Nurses here on the Macmillan Support Line.
I am sorry to hear about your stay in hospital with ischemic colitis, and that you are experiencing period type pain.
Ischemic colitis is caused by a reduction in blood flow to the large intestine. This can lead to inflammation or injury. Colitis is often linked to inflammatory bowel diseases; however ischaemic colitis is a problem that is usually to do with your circulatory system. Diagnosis is often made through imaging, such as a CT scan, or a colonoscopy. Treatment will depend on your individual situation.
Calprotectin is a protein that is present in the faeces when there is intestinal inflammation.
