My hair is growing back slowly in all directions. I need something to tame it such as gel or wax. Can you recommend anything? I've been using Routine shampoo and conditioner or the Cornish seaweed company shampoo/conditioner. Thank you.

Hi Madmozza
Thanks for getting in touch with our online community. My name’s Louise and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists here on the Macmillan Support Line.
I can see from your profile that you have joined our breast cancer and chemotherapy forums. Certain cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy for breast cancer, can affect hair follicles which alters the way hair grows back and cause changes to hair.
As we don’t have access to medical records here on the support line we are unable to make recommendations on specific products or brands. However, there are different types of support to help you find the right products and styling that work for you.
We have some practical tips on hair styling and care and many branches of Boots have Macmillan trained Beauty Advisors.
Look Good Feel Better has an online Hair Loss, Scalp Care and New Growth Workshop. Hair Reborn offers support for styling hair after it grows back and My New Hair has a database of salons with trained stylists.
Cancer Research UK has an online shop with natural products that have been especially chosen for people who are having or who have had cancer treatment.
You can also speak with your clinical nurse specialist (CNS). They are there to answer questions and offer support.
It can help to share experiences with others in a similar situation. Our online community and the Breast Cancer Now forum can be a valuable a way to get tips from others. You can also find support in your area.
You could also call us. One of our nurses would be happy to talk things through.
Kind regards
Louise, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
