Pain with breast cancer

I've been experiencing soreness and pain in my chest for almost a year now. I recently went to a GP appointment, where they found a 3.5cm lump. I have a mammogram booked for next Monday, after almost 4 weeks of waiting. I'm unsure whether pain is a symptom of breast cancer or of this could be something else?

    Welcome to the online community.

This sounds like a really worrying time for you right now. In situations like this it’s OK not to be OK.  People usually go to the worst-case scenario however this isn’t always the case.

By the information in your post, it sounds like you are in what we call the diagnostic phase. You will probably be referred to a one stop breast clinic where they will initially give you an examination/mammogram. They will also discuss if you require any further investigations from there, which may also be carried out in the same day if possible.

There are no unique symptoms that are only caused by breast cancer. This link will explain some of the common symptoms reported with a possible breast cancer but these  can also be caused by other medical conditions.

On its own pain in your breast in not usually a sign of breast cancer but any new or worsening symptom should always be investigated as soon as possible regardless.

Sometimes you may just need a listening ear.

It may be worthwhile for you to  give us a call  where you can have a two-way conversation with one of our nurses  to discuss your situation in more detail.
