Tamoxifen s effect on the womb

I am on tamoxifen after a lumpectomy and radiotherapy for breast cancer and last year had some bleeding so had a hysteroscopy which showed a polyp which was removed.  This summer I came off the tamoxifen for 2 months while my swollen leg was being investigated.  Luckily it wasn't a blood clot but no idea what caused it.  Then I mentioned I still sometimes get a blood coloured discharge.  This led to another hysteroscophy and a biopsy of my endometrium which was thickened. I now have a letter informing me that the biopsy was clear...brilliant news....and to make sure I go back to my GP if I have any bleeding. This doesn't make sense to me as I still have bleeding. Not every day. It comes and goes. Do I really need to go back to the GP and start the whole process over again

  • Hi sj54

    Thanks for getting in touch.

My name is Sarah one of the Cancer information nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

I hope you are finding the online community a safe and helpful place to share with others.

It sounds like you have had a difficult time with tests and investigations for concerning symptoms. Good news to hear that your biopsy was clear.

You can experience bleeding when you are on Tamoxifen. It may be helpful to have a conversation with your GP about what specific symptoms you need to be concerned about.

It can be confusing managing life after cancer but knowing signs and symptoms can help you feel more in control.

If we can help with anything else, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch.

    All the best

    Sarah
