TNBC and GLP 1

Hello,

I am a triple-negative breast cancer survivor. I finished chemotherapy in May 2025 and currently have about 25 kg (55 lbs) of excess weight. I know GLP-1 receptor agonists (such as Ozempic, Wegovy, or Saxenda) are sometimes used for weight management, but I am concerned about safety after TNBC.

Is there any evidence that GLP-1 therapy increases the risk of breast cancer recurrence, or is it considered safe for TNBC survivors after chemotherapy? Thank you for your guidance.

  • Hi ARTY_Be28615c,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the online community. I hope you are finding it useful.

My name is Fiona and I’m one of the Macmillan cancer information nurses.

I hope you are recovering well after your treatment for triple negative breast cancer.

There is a lot of discussion around these weight loss drugs just now. It’s understandable that you may be considering using them if you have a lot of weight to lose.

At present there isn’t a lot of evidence around how these medications might affect anti-cancer treatments. More research is needed.

You may find it helpful to read this information about weight loss injections and cancer.

On the Support Line we don’t have access to your medical records and so we would recommend speaking to your breast cancer specialist or GP. They are best placed to advise you about whether this is a safe option for you.

You are always welcome to call the Support Line and talk to one of our nurses. Talking things through can often help.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Fiona P,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
