Will it be ok to have a Dexa scan 3 days after I have Radiotherapy?

  • Dear   Diddy Stocko

Thank you for getting in touch, my name is Pauline and I am one of the Cancer Information nurses on the support line.  Welcome to our online community. I hope you are finding it helpful.

Dexa scans use a small amount of radiation and are generally very safe. However the safety and timing of the scan is dependent upon what type of radiotherapy you have had as well as other medical information. It may be advisable to speak with either your nurse specialist or with your consultant, update them on your appointment for the dexa scan and ask if the the timing of the scan is best suited to your particular needs.

It can be helpful to talk to someone about how this is affecting you and your wellbeing. You are more than welcome to give us a call on 0808 808 0808, from 8am til 8pm, seven days a week.

I hope this information was helpful.

    Best wishes

  • Hi

Thank you for your advice - my radiotherapy is on the 1st September and my Dexa scan is on the 4th September so I think I’m going to rearrange my zdexa scan.
